Teaching Development Grants (TDG)

In line with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction’s mission in supporting teacher professional development locally and internationally, our colleagues contribute actively to the enhancement of learning and teaching strategies, to curriculum design development, and to the pursuit of pedagogical innovation in the classroom. 

This project is a faculty-level project funded by our Department (C&I).

Our Team

 

Our team members are all from The Education Univerisity of Hong Kong. The project leader is from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction ( C & I ) who is familiar with assessment strategies, while the member from Department of Mathematics and Information Technology ( MIT ) is an expert in educational technology. The collaboration between the two departments enabled the team to deal with both assessment and technological challenges in this project.

Dr. ZHAN, Ying

Senior Lecturer II​​

Department of Curriculum and Instruction

 

Zhan Ying is a senior lecturer II at The Education University of Hong Kong. She obtained her Ph.D. from The University of Hong Kong. She has more than five-year teaching experience at tertiary level and obtained a number of teaching awards such as distinguished young teacher, best supervisor of undergraduates, and teaching excellence.

Ms Chan Ngok-Cheng is a Senior Lecturer II of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at The Education University of Hong Kong. She has obtained her Master of Education at the University of Hong Kong. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education at the University of Bristol. Her research interests are curriculum studies, teacher professional development and the development of teachers’ intercultural competence.

She has taught in Hong Kong Baptist University for 9 years before joining The Education University of Hong Kong. She has also worked as a teacher in kindergarten, primary and secondary schools for many years. She is experienced in teaching courses related to curriculum studies, practicum and providing practicum supervision. She has also provided a number of professional development workshops to school teachers and principals about curriculum development in schools.

Dr. SUN, Daner

Dr. Sun Daner is an assistant professor at the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology. Her research interests include ICT-supported curriculum development, ICT-facilitated science/STEM learning, mobile learning and teacher professional development. She has developed strong academic proficiency in interdisciplinary research.

Dr. GAO, Fang 高放

Assistant Professor 

Department of International Education and Lifelong Learning

Dr. Gao Fang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Education and Lifelong Learning. Prior to joining the University, she was Research Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University. She did her undergraduate studies and initial professional education at Shenyang University in China. She has a Master degree in Educational Sciences from the University of Amsterdam and she completed Ph.D. in the Sociology of Education at the University of Hong Kong. Her main research interests are in minority education and sociology of education. She has published Becoming a model minority: Schooling experiences of ethnic Koreans in China (Lexington Books, 2010), 28 papers in international refereed journals such as Race Ethnicity and Education (A*), British Educational Research Journal (A*), Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development (A*), Teachers and Teaching: Theory and Practice (A), International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism (A), Current Issues in Language Planning (A), British Journal of Sociology of Education (A), Comparative Education (A), Asian Ethnicity (A) and so forth, and 13 refereed book chapters. She is also the editor for two upcoming edited books Education, ethnicity and equality in the multilingual Asian context; Tertiary education in Asia and Eurasia: Sustainable policies, practices and developments by Springer. 

Dr. LEE Tai Hoi Theodore 李泰開

Senior Lecturer I

Theodore is used to be a secondary school teacher for 10 years before leaving for New Zealand to complete his higher degree in education.  He obtained a Master of Educational Leadership (First Honours) and his PhD from the University of Waikato, New Zealand. 

   

Research Interests:

Teacher development and leadership, inquiry learning, assessment for learning.

Lam Tak Shing, John

Dr. John Lam is Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. He was formerly a secondary teacher in Hong Kong and had served at the Hong Kong Institute of Education (the former EduHK) for 19 years. He has published a number of books and articles in curriculum and pedagogy. He had participated recently in some region wide Catholic schools social ethics curriculum in collaboration with the Catholic Research Centre at the CUHK. His recent academic interests are in curriculum evaluation, teachers' curriculum self, civic education and religious education.

Dr. CHAN Kam Wing Paul

Chan Kam Wing is adjunct assistant professor at The Education University of Hong Kong. He obtained his Doctor of Education from Leicester University in the United Kingdom. He has more than twenty-five years of teaching experience at tertiary level and 148 research outputs including journal articles, books, book chapters and conference papers.

  • Cooperative learning

  • Small class teaching

  • Teacher professional development
